American Life annuity review.
A small, cloud-native carrier writing MYGAs and indexed annuities in a limited set of states, rated in AM Best's Good tier. Small and lower-rated is a specific proposition, and it should be priced like one.
The issuer behind the guarantee.
An annuity guarantee is a promise from one company, sometimes lasting forty years. The product matters less than the balance sheet standing behind it.

B++ plus limited availability defines how much belongs here
American Life sits in AM Best's Good tier — the same band as Atlantic Coast Life and Canvas — below the tier most competing carriers occupy, and it writes business in only around 18 states. Neither fact is disqualifying, and its clean complaint record is genuine, though a very small book of business makes complaint statistics nearly meaningless in either direction. The practical rule is the same as for every carrier in this tier: know your state guaranty association limit, keep the premium under it, and treat the rate advantage as compensation for the credit profile rather than free yield.
Three things to understand about American Life.
The rate premium is the whole pitch, so weigh it as one
Carriers in this tier win business by out-crediting the A-rated field. That is a legitimate trade for a right-sized premium — a rate-led MYGA under your state's guaranty limit is a defensible position. It stops being defensible when the premium grows past the limit because the rate looked too good to split across carriers.
Cloud-native is an operating model, not a safety feature
American Life's technology-first build keeps its costs low, which helps fund the rates. It has no bearing on claims-paying ability. Evaluate the balance sheet like any insurer's: the rating, the tier, and your state's backstop.
The Fusion product blends two crediting styles, so demand both sets of terms
American Fusion combines MYGA-style fixed crediting with indexed crediting in one contract. Hybrids resist comparison by design. Get the guaranteed fixed rate, the guaranteed minimum cap on the indexed side, and the surrender schedule as three separate written numbers before evaluating it against anything.
How to read any carrier.
Palm Wealth Capital publishes independent annuity research and education. No carrier pays for placement on this site. Nothing here is individualized investment, tax, or legal advice, and no page on this site is a recommendation to buy or avoid any contract. Annuity guarantees rely on the financial strength and claims-paying ability of the issuing insurance company.
Holding an American Life contract — or being shown one?
Send the illustration or statement. We will check American Life’s current AM Best rating and outlook against the date on this page, read the surrender schedule and any market value adjustment, price the riders, and tell you what the guaranteed terms are rather than the illustrated ones. If the answer is that you don’t need it, that is the answer you get — there is nothing here for us to sell you.
